Differences between Office 2016 and Office 2019

On September 24, 2018 a new version of Microsoft Office Suite has been released – version 2019. However, during development, Microsoft began to focus more on cloud solution Microsoft/Office 365 and competing with Google products (Office Online), which unfortunately also affected the number of innovations that Microsoft offered us in the latest perpetual version. Nevertheless, Microsoft Office 2019 for Windows or Mac has updates available for Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Project, and Visio, which are accompanied by new versions of SharePoint, Exchange, Skype, and Project server applications.

The presented innovations are mostly negligible compared to the innovations in previous versions, and therefore most users will not even feel them. The main difference remains related to different system requirements - Office 2019 requires Windows 10Windows Server 2016 or macOS Sierra, while Office 2016 also runs on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1.

Because the same end date of the extended support of Microsoft Office 2016 and 2019 (October 14, 2025), most users choose to stick to the 2016 version. When obtaining licenses from the free market, it is still possible to buy Office 2016 and save a substantial portion of expenses.
